“The cows have come to the herd..”
Almost all of our farmers have the ability to identify a cow that has entered the herd or a cow that shows slight signs. What is coming to this group?
A cow only has sex with a male at a specific point in the reproductive cycle. At this point, various features are displayed. Patti marks or slight marks are the characteristics shown when ready to have sex with a male animal. In order for artificial insemination to be effective, it is very important to identify these slight signs correctly.
Allowing other animals to climb on their body (Standing Heat) can be identified as the most accurate sign to know that the animal has arrived in the herd. (Female animals also climb on the body of an animal that has come to the herd.) But in many farms in our country, it is difficult to observe this feature as the animals are fried.
- Swelling and redness of the vagina – There is some swelling in the vagina and the inside is wet and red.
Vaginal discharge. Clear, colorless (egg white-like) mucus discharges from the vagina and may stick to the vagina. Also, this mucus can be seen smeared and dry on the tail and thighs. Sometimes these can be seen where the animal reaches.
Restlessness and shouting – The cow in the herd may be observed standing and showing agitation and shouting louder than usual, even when the other animals are resting freely.
Decreased food intake
Slight decrease in milk production.
Sniffing and licking the genitalia of other cows.
The same animal may not exhibit all of the above characteristics. Also, these symptoms do not last long. In some animals, these symptoms can last for a very short time with a very low intensity.
Because of this situation, it is best to observe the cowshed at least four times a day to identify a cow that has entered the herd. Monitoring is usually done in the morning and evening during milking, and in addition, it is preferable to monitor in the afternoon and only at ten to eleven thirty at night.
It is very important to recognize the signs at the right time for artificial insemination to be successful. Also, if you miss the detection of slight marks, you have to wait twenty one days until the next season comes to the herd. In these cases, you will suffer huge economic losses. By recognizing the early signs and inseminating them in the right time frame, you can increase the chances of your animals getting pregnant. Through that, it will be possible to increase the profitability of the farm.
